Instructions

Important Note: This is not a self-test. Have someone who has not been drinking help you perform the test and read the results. Wait 15 minutes after your last alcoholic drink or rinse your mouth with water before testing.

Steps to Perform the Test:

  1. Preparation:
    • Bring the pouch to room temperature (15-30°C or 59-86°F) before opening.
    • Remove the detector from the sealed pouch. Avoid touching the mouthpiece to prevent contamination.
  2. Activate the Detector:
    • Hold the middle of the detector.
    • Firmly squeeze the detector to break the inner glass tube. Perform the test promptly to avoid humidity effects.
    • Do not crush or bend the detector.
  3. Breathing into the Detector:
    • Without a blow bag:
      • Hold the detector horizontally and take a deep breath.
      • Blow hard into the mouthpiece in the direction of the arrows for 12 seconds.
      • Shake the detector slightly to distribute the crystals evenly in the test window.

Reading the Results:

  • Light Conditions: Read results under incandescent or fluorescent light, or indirect sunlight.
  • Interpreting Crystal Color:
    • Positive: If most crystals are light aqua (green/blue or blue/green), the result is positive, indicating the breath alcohol level is at or above the printed level.
    • Negative: If most crystals are light yellow, the result is negative, indicating the breath alcohol level is below the printed level. The yellow may appear paler than in an unused detector.
  • Comparison: Compare the results to an unused detector or the yellow box printed on the detector instructions.
